Hannah sighed as she made her way out from the kitchens at Madam Puddifoot's to see who was requesting her company today. She'd been having a lot of 'meet the baker' moments lately. At least she knew when she got to that part of her business, she'd be fine. All she needed was the start up money and a location. Oh is that all, Hannah?. She'd been thinking about it a lot lately. It would be nice to be her own boss, to bake all day.
Hannah gasped in horror when she saw Draco.
"Draco Orion Malfoy! What are you doing outside!"
He voice was so shrill, her tone remarkably like his mother's when she was upset. Draco jumped. And she knew his full name? What in the hell? What all did Blaise tell her? Half the tea house turned to see what was going on. Hannah was marching up to him with her hands on her hips.
"What? And will you lower your voice, shrew?"
Hannah gave him a look. She was getting quite good at that look. Hannah sat down across from him and tried to put a hand on his. Draco jerked away with a furrowed brow.
"Don't do that." He didn't know her well enough for her to go touching him, and she might have happy cooties. The last thing he needed was to be going about all cheerful-like.
Hannah gave him the look again. "Blaise told me Alecto Carrow tried to kill you, and that someone... someone ELSE has been sending you death threats. Why are you just running around in public? You should be somewhere safe until Carrow is captured, Draco. Blaise would be heartbroken if anything were to happen to you."
Draco glared. Or he tried to. It was kind of hard to be annoyed with someone who barely knew you and worried about you because it would make your best friend upset if something happened. She really was a foreign entity here. It was interesting in an extremely awkward way.
"Calm down. It's all right. I've seen the head of the MLE about it. They have the notes. Madam LeGrot is putting an Auror on the case. It'll be fine." Really he wasn't so sure it would be fine, but he did not want Hannah to worry. Blaise would be pissed if Draco got his girl all wound up and worried.
They sat in awkward silence for a few minutes with Hannah still looking at him with a worried expression.
When Draco couldn't stand it any longer, he got to the point. "So... whenever you're free this week, I thought we'd pop round to see Greg. He could probably use some cheering."
"What? No," Hannah said in a bit of a panic. "Have you spoken to Blaise about this?"
"Well... no. I don't talk to Blaise about every little thing I do. Do you?"
She blushed.
"Oh for fuck's sake... you do. How gross." Draco shook his head and wiped a hand over his face. "You know his birthday's on Wednesday, right?"
"I do. I already have his present."
Draco grinned. "What is it?"
Hannah blushed again.
"It's not going to be you wearing only a bow, is it?"
Hannah gasped and slapped at his hands. Draco avoided her, snickering.
"Seriously... what is it?"
"If you must know, it's a painting."
"Of?"
"Me," she said, blushing yet again.
"Is it a naked painting," Draco asked knowingly. She was such fun to mess with. She gave everything away with her facial expressions and especially her eyes.
"No," Hannah replied, straightening her spine. "I'm... wearing... my underwear."
Draco let out a shout of laughter that made Hannah jump.
Hannah bristled. "I don't think the idea of me naked is funny."
"Oh, it's not. You're absolutely lovely without most of your clothes on. I just think it's fabulous that you did it."
Hannah smiled at him. Draco Malfoy was so funny sometimes. The things he thought were amusing never ceased to amaze Hannah. It only lent credence to her idea that he was slightly disturbed though.
Suddenly Draco stopped laughing and frowned. "Who painted you?"
"What?"
"Some old lech saw you half naked. I'll hex him."
"Oh my goodness, you will do no such thing. He's an artist. It's his job. And besides, Dean was-"
"Dean?" Draco asked, eye twitching. "Dean Thomas?"
Hannah blinked. "Well... yes."
"That right bastard," Draco started to rise.
"Where are you going?"
"To hex Thomas."
"No," Hannah shouted. "Good grief! Sit down! Don't be so dramatic. You leave Dean alone. He was a perfect gentleman."
"I can't. He's messing with my things."
"Your... things?"
"Gin was wearing his trousers. She pulled them on in an emergency, yes, but why in the hell are his trou within her reach?"
"I'm one of your things?" Hannah asked.
Draco rolled his eyes and sighed loudly. "Have I not explained this properly? You get one of us, you get us all... hence Greg. And you should know that Pansy is anxious to meet you now. So how do we feel about meeting Greg? We'll save Pansy for later. She's lovely once you get to know her. I promise. I think she's wonderful."
"Yes, well, you also admittedly like to hex people."
Draco laughed. "Come on. Greg's mostly harmless."
"That's not my recollection of him," Hannah said nervously. The thought of Gregory Goyle still made her nervous. The thought of Pansy Parkinson made her even more nervous.
"You don't need to be frightened of Greg," Draco said softly, startled that she seemed to actually be afraid of Goyle. "He'll like you. Even if he doesn't, he'll be nice, or I'll punch him in his face then hex him while he's on the ground."
Hannah had wide eyes. Goodness. He had such a calm to his tone when he spoke of things like that? "You'll... you'll be there then?"
"Sure."
"Well, all right. I suppose. Things with Tracey seemed to go well."
Draco kept a smile on his face. Yes, but she was calling you a Mudblood in her head the entire time. He was still irritated about that. Yes, ironic, and maybe a bit hypocritical, but it still made him angry. Draco couldn't help that.
"Don't worry," Draco said. "You'll like Greg. Do you know how to knit or anything like that? He needs a hobby, and Greg loves to learn new things."
"Knitting?" Hannah said, looking suspiciously at Draco.
"Everyone needs a hobby, Hannah. I think Greg would enjoy knitting. A lot." How he said this without laughing, Draco would never know.
"Well then I'll just bring my needles when we visit him. Oh yay. Oooo, how exciting." She clapped her hands and bounced a bit. "I love making new friends and showing them new things."
Bloody Hell! Draco laughed awkwardly and leaned away from her - as if her excited clapping were contagious. She was sort of scary when she got really happy and excited about stuff. She had bounced and clapped. It was spooky.
"All right. I'll owl you, yeah?"
"Be sure to owl, Goyle. I don't want to just drop in on him."
Draco gave her a look. "Being unexpected is half the fun."
Hannah gave him a look. She had a feeling Gregory Goyle would not know he was having visitors until they were standing in his home. With knitting needles.
