Su tucked her hair behind her ears and sighed. He's late. He'll show up-- she looked at her watch. Thirty minutes late and probably just arrogantly think I having nothing better to do! Su thought angrily, scanning the room again for the familiar face. They were supposed to meet at midnight, but it was already half pass. She wondered if he was standing her up.
"Jo san," a voice said from behind her. Su jumped and swung around, almost knocking the man down.
"Hello, Mr. Nott." She pulled back her shoulders. "Do you want to have a seat and some coffee?"
Theodore shook his head. "I'd rather this be short, Miss Li."
"Fine. My sister wanted to give you this." She head out an envelope with a shaking hand. She hated for body when she noticed and was grateful when he took the envelope without mentioning it.
Theo eyed the paper warily. "This is from Chi?"
Su snorted at what he was implying. "I do not have any desire to continue what we started -- and finished, I might add -- in Beijing."
Theo smiled arrogantly at her. "That contradicts what you said in Beijing."
Su frowned at his arrogant smile and words. "Excuse me. I guess I just came to my senses then."
"Being in London changes that much?"
"Yes, Mr. Nott."
"That's good to know since I, too, have no desire to continue anything with you." He held up the envelope. "Thank you. I'll write Chi back if you can give me her address."
"That is no necessary. Simply read that and it will be done."
"You know what she wrote me?"
"No."
"Then how do you know she is not expecting a reply?"
"If she is, contact me at the Ministry. I'll pass along the reply."
"I'm not allowed to have contact with her?"
"Mr. Nott, please. She's my sister--"
"Who I saved."
"You saved, and I've thanked you for that."
Theo looked at her in silence for a moment. She had not lost her beauty. She was still gorgeous. Breathtakingly so. Her dark almond eyes held her passion and fiery spirit. But the willingness, the friendliness that her eyes once held was gone.
"Zoi jan," he said politely, bowing his head slightly.
"Goodbye, Mr. Nott," she said coldly, spinning on her heel and walking out without another word.
Theo glanced down at the envelope in his hand. Interesting...
