Calanthe had just finished visiting Blaise's clinic before walking to Hannah's bakery. She walked in and tried to stop the impulse to shade her eyes. It was entirely too bright in here.
Hannah heard the bell and came out from the kitchen.
"Mac, is that you? I have some new... Calanthe. Hullo. How lovely to see you. Have you been visiting Blaise then? Can I put a pot of tea on for you?"
She was suddenly very aware of exactly how much flour was on her person.
"If you'll just give me a moment to freshen up. The chairs and tables are new if you'd like a seat."
"Tea would be lovely," Calanthe said, glancing over the blond, trying to keep the sneer off of her face. This was her son's girlfriend who liked to poison people. She was perfect for Blaise, but Calanthe thought she could tone it down a bit as far as the cheerful personality went. "Take all the time you need."
Hannah hurried to the kitchen and used her wand to aid her. She could get twice as much done when she used her wand. She preferred her hands, but she was trying to impress here. In the matter of time it took the water to boil, she had her fancy tea service set - the one she planned on using for fancy private parties should anyone want to hire her exclusively. Hannah wheeled it out. She'd put an assortment of her baked goods on the tray for Calanthe.
She'd also changed into a black dress and heels she kept here just in case. There wasn't a speck of flour on her. Hannah used her wand to pour Calanthe's tea before she poured her own. Then Hannah took a seat across from her. It was nice to know all those upper-crusty manners Wayne's mother had pounded into her head would not go to waste after all.
"Have you enjoyed your stay so far?"
Impressive. Very impressive. "My first love will always be Italy, but England certainly has grown on me, as has Scotland," she said, gesturing around to the bakery. "I've enjoyed my time with Narcissa, and seeing my son bustling around rather harried has its positive points as well."
"I've never been to Italy. Or France for that matter," Hannah said with a bit of a sour face. "But I do hope Blaise won't be trotting off without me like he did before."
Calanthe raised a brow at her.
"I let Draco take me out while Blaise was away. Just as friends, of course," Hannah smiled to herself recalling the dancing.
"Of course," Calanthe said softly. You neglected to mention you were arrested as well. "Well, if he doesn't take you away somewhere, make him. Or threaten to leave him so he will. The boy is hopeless with serious females. Make him do what you want. It'll make his eye twitch, and I always found that to me therapeutic."
"I usually do get what I want," Hannah said then took a sip of her tea. "My ways are just a bit different than yours. I've made his eye twitch loads of times. Usually when taking advice from Draco. In fact a true testament to me getting my way is the fact that I am even with Blaise. He insisted we should only be friends because he felt he was not the sort of bloke I should fancy - which he's right about that. I should find some nice, sensible fellow with a past not so checkered, but I thought I had that once, and I was dead bored. I was better for knowing Blaise, so I was not taking no for an answer."
Calanthe was slowly grinning as Hannah explained. "I'm sure you vexed him in the beginning. I have never known my son to say no to a woman. Ever."
"He told me no. Repeatedly at first. I even cried about it. It was very irritating. He even slept with someone else to get me out of his head and said my name when..." Hannah flushed. "And maybe I don't need to tell you that."
She threw her head back and laughed in a way she normally didn't do in public. Excellent. More blackmail material. "Oh my, he is smitten." She settled down and drank her tea, staring at Hannah with an amused look on her face. "I must say I certainly had my doubts when Blaise first told me about you, but you are truly good for him."
Hannah smiled. Calanthe's laugh was scary, but it has certainly been a true laugh. Hannah got the feeling not many people got to hear the woman's real laughter.
"He's good for me too. He told you he loved me, yes? Well, I love him as well. With every bit of my being," Hannah said honestly - because if she could not tell his mother this, who could she tell? "And to be honest, I had my doubts about you as well, but you love him too."
Calanthe's smile turned into a smirk. "Well, if you hadn't doubted me, then we very well would have had a problem. I like it when my boys put the fear of God into the women they know regarding me. I know I've done my job."
"How Slytherin of you. Well, this will amuse you then. When Blaise told me he'd been to see you and told you he loved me and you were coming to visit, I fainted, but I think I've rallied rather well."
Hannah was smiling as she took another sip of her tea.
She chuckled lightly. "Yes, I have done my job very well. I hope you didn't sustain any lasting injuries?"
"Not in this relationship."
