He'd given Ginny time to make sure Hannah was alright. Harry was sure Hannah was probably asleep right now. Pushing open the door to Healing Hands, he was surprised when the chime didn't sound. Probably didn't want it to wake her patient. The whole clinic was dark as he made his way back to her office. He knocked lightly on the door before sticking his head in.
Ginny looked over, breaking the stare she'd had at the wall opposite of her. She had no idea how long she'd just been staring. She blinked, realizing that Harry was there. She nodded, letting him know it was alright to come in.
Taking her nod as a 'yes, you can come in,' Harry entered the room, shutting the door behind him. He moved to stand next to Ginny, sparing a glance at the currently folded-out hide-a-bed. Hannah was asleep with Zabini lying next to her, arm draped protectively across her waist. He grimaced, looking back at Ginny. "I take it she's alright." He took the time to actually look at Ginny, frowning at the defeated look in her eyes.
"She's sleeping. Blaise hasn't left. Most of the cuts won't scar, but I'm not sure about the ones on her right elbow. For some reason, those were the worst. I used dittany on it."
Harry nodded, grabbing a chair and pulling it over to sit in. "How are you?"
"Worried. I don't know if they used anything else on her. They could have used the Cruciatus. She didn't say, but she was kind of in and out of it. I was more focused on getting the cuts healed, stop the bleeding."
"You know I wasn't talking about her."
"I know," she said, turning to look at him. Don't do this. Not now. Not here. Ginny felt a wave of relief when Hannah stirred in her sleep, waking up a bit. She stood, walking around Harry. She avoided the hand he held out to her, brushing past his fingers to stand over Hannah. "Harry's here."
Hannah tried to move, but Blaise tightened his grip on her. All she could manage was propping herself up a bit. Hannah gave his arm a bit of a pat. It was soothing that he was holding her like this. The pain potion Ginny had given her kept Blaise's hold from hurting.
"Tell him to come over. I'm a bit... pinned here. We can talk. Blaise sleeps pretty heavily."
Hearing Hannah, Harry made his way over, standing next to Ginny. He frowned again, looking over at her when she took a step away. Deciding he'd deal with that later, he smiled down at Hannah. "Hey, you. You look a lot better than you did earlier today. Feeling better?"
"A bit, yes. Lots of potions help. I've been sleeping all day just about. Sit down, Harry."
Harry was eyeing Blaise warily. Part of Blaise's leg was out from under the blanket, and he was very obviously just wearing his pants.
"It's all right, Harry. He won't wake."
Still grimacing, Harry took a seat next to Hannah. He turned when he heard the door shut. Ginny had gone elsewhere. Part of him was saying it was to give them privacy. Another part was well aware that that wasn't what it was at all. "Potions are good. You're not in pain or anything? There was a lot of blood." Oh, right. Let's remind her that she was on the floor of her bakery with a big pool of blood around her. Brilliant.
Hannah smiled. Poor Harry, foot always in his mouth. Hannah placed her hand over his. She didn't need to tell him that they needed to find Draco. He knew that. They didn't need to talk about any of this mess.
"I've seen Parvati Patil. Were your ears burning on Thursday? We talked about you, and I was thinking that it had been far too long since we met. I wondered if you were eating properly."
Knowing that she was trying to change the subject, and understanding the desire to do so, Harry nodded. "I've been eating alright. Luna's been stuffing me a lot." He blinked. "That sounded a lot dirtier than I meant it."
Hannah laughed before she could stop herself. In horror, she cut it off suddenly, her eyes filling with tears. She should not be laughing when just last night Draco had been stolen.
"So things are good with Luna then? That's nice, Harry. I like Luna." Sure, she slept with Blaise and it nearly broke my heart, but she didn't know. If she takes care of Harry and makes him happy, I like her.
Harry smiled, squeezing her hand. He didn't know whether to be happy he'd made her laugh, or feel guilty. "I'm glad." His eyes darted to Blaise when he shifted a bit, pulling Hannah against him tighter. It would probably be really awkward for Blaise if he woke up and found out he was sharing a bed with Hannah and Harry. Hiding a small smile, halfway hoping the Slytherin did wake up, Harry looked at Hannah. "You're really alright."
"Well, we all know I can take a beating and get up," Hannah joked - badly.
The silence after that was awkward.
"I'm... I am okay. I can't stop hearing him scream my name when that hex hit me though. If I had not distracted him... if..."
"It's not your fault." He frowned. This next part was going to hurt. "I dueled him in school, Hannah. He can defend himself. I assume he's only gotten better over the years." He tried to ignore the thoughts of how Malfoy'd gotten better at hexes and curses. "It wasn't your fault. It wasn't. And if he blames you, then he's a fucking idiot. He won't blame you, Hannah, and you shouldn't blame yourself."
She hoped he was right and Draco didn't blame her. That did not ease her guilt though.
"I see Dobby more than you," Hannah said, changing the subject again. "He comes in at least once a week for bikkies. I'd like to see you as much. I know you're busy, but if you came into the bakery, you could see Mac and Angelina and Penny too. You could meet Jack. He's completely in awe of you. He won't leave Mac or myself alone about it since we know you."
Ginny had told him about Jack. The fact that this little boy was asking about him made him a little uncomfortable. Just like the people who'd wanted to write books about his life. He always turned them down. He wasn't... it was awkward. "I should stop by more, I know. I'm going to try. Next week. I'll make sure to stop by next week."
"Jack would love that. I would too. I'll make blueberry pie for you."
Hannah squeezed Harry's hand. She knew he didn't like people looking up to him so much, but Jack was different. He looked up to a lot of people. She didn't think it best to mention how often he quoted Draco though.
"You'll be fine. He'll probably just ask you a lot of questions. I would like to see you though. That would be nice. If Jack knows you might be in, he'll camp out though."
Harry nodded. "Count on me being there. Besides-" He was cut off when Blaise made a snoring sound, his face contorting for a second before it evened out again. "I should probably let you get to sleep."
Hannah smiled and squeezed his hand. "Probably. I've had a rough day. Thank you for caring, Harry. You're so busy, but you always make time for me when I ask. You'll never know how much that means to me. You're a good friend."
"It's easy to be a good friend to a good friend," he said, standing. A little awkwardly, he leaned down and kissed the top of her head. "You rest, get better. Who'll make everyone die of sugar shock if you're not back in business soon?"
Hannah let out a little huff of laughter.
"Take care, Harry. I'll see you soon."
Harry left Ginny's office, closing the door behind him softly. He was glad Hannah was alright. He knew Ginny had healed her physically, but sometimes psychologically it look longer. Harry knew this better than most. There were still things that he hadn't healed from during the war. Some things you just couldn't unsee. His brow furrowed when he didn't see Ginny in any of the exam rooms. Making his way to the lobby, not seeing here there either, he crossed into the receptionist's area. Opening the door to the break room, he stuck his head in. "Gin?"
"Yeah? Is she alright?" Ginny looked over at him her eyes a bit wide with panic. "Did something happen?"
"No. She's sleeping. She's fine." He walked further into the room, pulling the door closed behind him. "Are you alright?"
"I was worried about her in the beginning, but she looks like she'll make a full recovery. I'm confident in that." Ginny nodded, looking down at her hands.
"Again, I wasn't talking about her."
She looked up at him. "I know."
Harry didn't like the defeated look in her eyes. "We're going to find him, Gin. We will."
"You don't know that," she said, shaking her head. "Don't tell me you're going to find him if you're not sure. Don't do that to me."
"Ginny-"
"No!" She'd been holding this in for too long, and it was easy to yell at Harry. So easy. "Don't tell me you're going to find him! This has happened before! Percy was just gone and then we never saw him again, and he had a son and someone who loved him and it just didn't matter! He never came back! So don't tell me it's going to be ok!"
Harry flinched at how loud her yelling was in the little room. "Malfoy-"
"What do you care about Draco," she hissed at him, stalking closer. "You hate him! You wouldn't even care if he ever came back! You're probably blaming him for what happened to Hannah! You can't look past your petty self-righteousness to see that he's changed! He's not the same boy from school! You don't even care about him!"
"Gin-"
"NO!" She reached up and pulled at her hair, shaking her head violently. "I don't care if you hate him! I love him! You have to find him! Harry, I don't care if you hate him! Find him! I need him! He can't be... it can't happen this way again! I won't survive it!" She lashed out with her fists, slapping at his chest, when he tried to wrap his arms around her. "I don't care if you hate him, you have to find him! I can't do this! I'm not strong enough to do this. Find him! Promise me, Harry! Promise me that you'll find him! Hate him, I don't care, but find him! Please. Please. Pleasepleaseplease."
Harry held on as she thrashed in his arms, tucking his head closer to her neck when she reached up and slapped at his shoulders. When her legs gave out, he lowered them both to the floor, holding her as she sobbed.
"Harry... I can't... I can't do this... I can't do this again..." Ginny was taking in great gasps of air. She felt like she was going to suffocate. Everything was too heavy, there wasn't enough oxygen in the room. "Harry-"
"It's going to be ok, Gin. I promise. It's going to be ok." He knew it was a lie, but he didn't know what else to say. He couldn't promise her anything. He couldn't promise her that they'd find Malfoy alive. He couldn't promise her that everything would be alright, because he wasn't sure. He would say the words, he'd do anything he had to to make her stop hurting. "It's alright. It's going to be alright."
He didn't know how long they were there on the floor. His legs had gone numb, her shoulders shaking silently with heavy breathing. Ginny was sniffling, but she wasn't crying. Not anymore. She didn't have any more in her. She was completely and utterly drained. Physically. Emotionally. "I have to go check on Hannah," she whispered against his shoulder.
"She's fine," he said, his hand running over her hair absently.
"I need to wake her up every hour. Make sure she doesn't have a concussion. If he comes back and she's still hurt, he'll be upset." She pulled back, pulling her sleeves over her hands before running them over her eyes. Sniffling, she ran a hand over Harry's shoulders. There were large wet marks there. "Sorry."
"Shut up," he said, pushing a lock of her hair behind her ear. "This isn't the first time you've cried on me, and it won't be the last."
Ginny nodded, pushing away from him. He stood quicker, and held a hand out to help her up. She took it, brushing her hands on her jeans, running her sleeve over her eyes once more. "She'll be able to go home tomorrow, as long as she's alright through the night."
Harry nodded. "We'll ask her questions on Monday, then."
"Yeah. Let her rest tomorrow. She needs it." She pulled open the door.
"Ginny." She turned to look at him, her face blank. "It's going to be alright, Ginny. It is."
She nodded, not believing a word from his mouth. "Goodnight, Harry. Thank you for checking up on her. I'm sure she appreciates it."
Harry had the feeling Ginny wasn't just talking about Hannah. "If there's anything I can do to help-"
"Find him," Ginny said immediately. She shook her head. "Just... find him."
Harry watched her leave the doorway and waited until he heard her re-enter her office and close the door. He might hate Draco Malfoy, but he hated that look in Ginny's eyes more. I'll do everything I can, Gin. I promise.
