Spying
Jodie had no idea the quill shoppe would be so busy, but like Mrs. Scrivenshaft had told her, students were coming in to stock up quills, parchment, and books delivered earlier in the week from Flourish and Blotts. The last weekend she wasn't required to work, because of the festival, but today it looked like just as many people were out and about.

She had just finished up a sale to a young third year when the bell over the door rang and she looked up, grinning when she saw her two younger sisters walk through the door. They were both clearly not happy about being seen together, but that was the normal for them. Carly and Harper were the epitome of Slytherin snob and Gryffindor brass. Standing next to each other, no one would know they were related.

Jodie had her mother's blonde, straight hair and blue eyes, but she also got her father's facial structure and height. Her sixteen year old sister, Carly had the same blonde hair, but that was all she got from their mum. Fourteen year old Harper however was a perfect mix of their parents. She had long, straight brown hair and hazel eyes. Her nose came from their mum and her cheeks from their dad.

There was also another different between the trio of girls today. Jodie's youngest sister Harper had a sling around her arm.

"Harper, what happened?" Jodie asked, instantly worried as she moved from behind the desk to get a closer look at Harper's arm, which was held in a magical cast. Carly rolled her eyes and strayed off to look around the small shop.

"Got hit by a bludger at practice the other day. Pomfrey healed me right up, though. No worries." Her eyes quickly looked over the shop. "So this is where you work? Mum and Dad owled to ask to see what it was like next time we had a chance. So, here we are."

Jodie instantly moved to the back of the shop. Carly finally came over to the desk and glared at Harper. "What did you say to her?"

"Nothing," Harper defended. "I just told her what happened to my arm and she ran off!"

"I'm right here," Jodie said as she reappeared. " I just needed to ask Mrs. Scrivenshaft if I could leave for a bit. I want you to go to the clinic I work at to get your arm looked at again. Let's go." She could tell her sisters were confused. Perhaps their parents hadn't informed her siblings about her second job. Grabbing her heavy coat, Jodie led them towards Healing Hands.

"I can't believe you work in a clinic. That's the last job I ever would have thought you'd get. When mum said you should have gone into healing you nearly went ballistic, and for you, that's bad," Carly said with wide eyes, trying to keep up with Jodie.

Harper was on her other side, giving her the same look. "When I was four and broke my foot, you were the one who was kicking and screaming about not wanting to go to the hospital. And now you're working in a clinic?"

Jodie spun around and glared harshly at her sisters. "I'd like for you to not mention that to my co-workers and employers. I need the money, and it's not like I'm an apprentice to a healer. I work in the lab with Blaise all day. I don't see the patients."

Carly grabbed Jodie's arm as she turned around to continue walking. Her face held awe. "Blaise? As in Blaise Zabini? You work with Blaise Zabini?"

"You're drooling, sister. You might want to mop that up," Harper bit out, earning her a glare in return.

"Please refrain from sniping with each other," Jodie pleaded. "Yes, I work with Blaise. He's my boss. Now, can we go inside? It's freezing out here." She held open the door to the clinic and ushered her two younger sisters inside. Being a weekend, she didn't expect much business.

"Theo? Ginny? Who's in today?"

Harper made a face at Jodie. "This is totally unnecessary. Madame Pomfrey already gave me the go-ahead to be out of hospital wing. You're taking this a bit too far."

"I worry about you. You have a habit of not doing as your told, especially when it comes to your health. You both do, actually."

Carly snorted, continuing to look around the waiting room. "Okay, mum."

Theo walked out of the office.

"Jodie... and friends. Hullo. What can I help you lot with today then?"

"Theo, these are my two sisters, Carly and Harper. Harper here got hit by a bludger in a quidditch match and I was wondering if you could look her arm over? It broke and I just want to make sure she's doing what she can to get better."

Harper rolled her eyes.

He didn't know she had sisters.

"Of course. Come back into exam one," Theo said. He understood being protective of a little sister. he was learning all about it with Nat. "It's nice to meet you both. I'm Theodore Nott, but just Theo please. Let's have a look at that arm, Harper."

Carly looked over Theo as they all filed into the room. She snapped her fingers, making Jodie jump, but Carly just grinned at Theo.

"You're the Slytherin zombie who worked at St. Mungo's. Did you really feed off of the brain dead patients there?"

Theo made a face. "I did actually. It's why they fired me. Ginny isn't as particular though. He looked at Harper. "How long ago did this happen?"

He cast a charm to look at the bone.

"Two days ago. It was at a practice."

Jodie was just staring at Theo, hoping that he was being sarcastic. "This was one of your very sarcastic moments, wasn't it? Otherwise I could see why Blaise yells at you a lot. I wouldn't like it if you ate brains either."

Theo made a face at Jodie before looking back at Harper's arm.

"Madam Pomfrey healed this?"

She nodded.

"She still does good work. It's coming along nicely. What position do you play, Harper?"

"Chaser," she replied promptly before glaring at Jodie. "Do you still think too much? I swear someone could eat half of your brain and you'd still be a genius that didn't get a word that comes out of people's mouths that had any bit of humor to it."

Jodie glared at her youngest and sister and glanced at the other one, who was just staring at Theo.

"I do not think too much. I approach things logically and without bias."

"I am working on humor for her," Theo said playfully. "So far it has not taken."

Jodie ignored the talk about humor. "So she's doing fine? No sign of infection or anything? She hasn't disturbed the bone mending?"

"What the hell, Jodie? Relax, will you?" Carly said, making a face at Jodie, who glared in return.

"Watch your language. Mother would hate it if you came home swearing up a storm." She turned to Theo. "Are all Slytherins taught every swear in the world?"

"Yes," Theo replied. "It's all in the Slytherin handbook. She is healing fine. No infection and the bone is mending as it should." He looked at Carly. "Let your sister worry about the both of you. It's what big brothers and sisters do. Or they should. My little sister is about to be an Auror, and she is frightfully Gryffindor in every way. I worry quite a bit."

Jodie chewed on her bottom lip, a habit she developed in her younger years that showed when she was nervous or unsure. "There should be a rule against having younger siblings sorted into Gryffindor. You're going to get seriously hurt one day, Harper."

"Like I'm going to stop because of that. That'd be like telling you to stop reading because you might get a paper cut. It's going to happen. Mum and dad are fine with it."

Carly snorted. "Dad's fine with it because he finally has a girl who'd rather be a boy."

"He'd rather have a boy because you've cast enough beauty charms on yourself to make even a troll look appetizing. It's disgusting," Harper shot back.

"Stop it, you two," Jodie said firmly before looking at Theo apologetically. "And the Slytherin and Gryffindor rivalry lives on."

Theo just chuckled.

"Not always. Healer Weasley and her boyfriend seem to be able to put things aside. He's a Slytherin and she's a Gryffindor. And no need for apologies," Theo said. "You don't think Natalie and I argue? Hell, Jodie, just wait until you see Blaise and I have to speak one day."

"Slytherins actually date Gryffindors?" Carly asked, her eyes wide. "There was a Hufflepuff who ventured into Ravenclaw territory for a date and I thought the houses were going to explode."

Jodie shook her head. Her sister was too entrenched in the house system to identify the other people she went to school with as human beings.

"You go on about Slytherin greatness all the time. Blaise Zabini has been dating his Hufflepuff girlfriend for over a year," Jodie replied.

"I'm more interested in the Hufflepuff boys myself," her youngest sister said with a grin.

Jodie turned wide eyes to Harper. "You're only fourteen," she said accusingly.

"So? I can look."

Jodie rolled her eyes.

"Gryffindors date Slytherins, yes, and the one Healer Weasley has for herself is pretty infamous. You might have heard of Draco Malfoy. Blaise Zabini is also possessive of his Hufflepuff, but with good reason. Hannah's pretty interesting. She owns the bakery."

Carly sniffed, trying not to show her shock. "I couldn't possibly go in there. All the sweets? I work hard enough to keep my figure."

"You're just going to throw it up later anyway."

Jodie was losing her patience. "All right, you two. Now that Harper's checked out, you can go on your own way and report to Mum and Dad that I'm doing fine. I need to get back to the quill shop anyway." She gave Theo a small smile. "Thanks for taking a look at her. Sorry to bother you with the catty sisters."

Theo shrugged. "I was in Slytherin house with the cattiest bunch ever. You have heard nothing until you've heard Zabini and Greengrass start in one one another."

"I do hope you are eating, Carly," Theo said, giving the girl a hard glare. "And keeping it down. It's not healthy to do otherwise. Eating several small and healthy meals a day will speed up your metabolism and help you lose weight, but I think from your body type, you are the right weight."

Carly just glared at Theo before blushing a bit and looking away. Jodie had a small smile on her face. Her sister had always had a problem with the way she looked hopefully she would listen to a healer.

Both her younger sisters shuffled out of the room, but Jodie hung back. "Thanks again. Harper has a bad habit of ignoring pain if it means having a bit more fun with friends. I was worried she would ignore what she had been told and hurt her arm again. And also thank you for talking to Carly. Between my brains and Harper's love of sports, she really doesn't fit in the family well. Dad wanted boys and Mum wanted a barrister or researcher. Good looks don't really matter."

"It's fine. If there's any more issues with them, don't hesitate to bring them in. If you think it will help Carly, I can make her out a food schedule. Things she should and should not eat. She really does need to eat several small meals though. That will help, and definitely no throwing up. Not eating is not only unhealthy, but makes your body horde the food when you do eat causing weight gain."

Theo made a face.

"Sorry. You didn't come by for a lecture."

"But it's helpful knowledge. I'll tell her about it. I'll ask Harper to keep an eye on her. Of course, she'll most likely report that she's become a skeleton just to spite Carly. They really don't get on well." Jodie appeared puzzled. "You mentioned that Blaise doesn't get along very well with you, or someone else that I recognized was in Slytherin. Does he not get along with anyone in his house? I thought it would be the other way 'round."

Theo chuckled. "He does, but not very many of them. Zabini doesn't really get along with many people. It's just his way. Slytherins tend to not get along with those like themselves because we know we can't trust people."

She didn't understand the reasoning behind his statements, and Jodie knew that if she asked Blaise, he'd just ignore her and continue to work. While she didn't embrace the house system from Hogwarts like her sister did, she did at least accept that because of it, people were shaped and molded to a certain personality type that they almost never broke out of. Blaise was just another example of Slytherins were difficult to get along with.

"I'll let you get back to work. I need to get back to Mrs. Scrivenshaft anyway. Hogsmeade weekends are always busy because students stock up on class supplies. Thank you Theo, and I'll see you on Monday."

Theo nodded. He didn't know what to do with Jodie most days. Not that he needed to, but he could not fit her into any of the other categories he had people in.

"See you Monday then."

[Summary]: Jodie's two sisters go snooping around her new job, and when she finds out that her youngest sister had recently been in a bit of trouble, she takes them to see Theo for an extra check up.
