Susan was smiling as she and Ron returned from her parents' home. Overall it had gone very well. Ron was understandably nervous, but her mum and dad had liked him. At one point, her mum pulled her aside and grilled Susan over whether there would be a wedding sometime soon. Susan had just sputtered and explained clearly that they were nowhere near that sort of thing.
Collapsing onto the couch, she pulled Ron down with her, immediately curling into his side. "That went well, don't you think?" she asked, grinning up at Ron.
"I don't know, you think? I mean, I did get into that argument with your father about that whole Quidditch thing. Reynolds is the better seeker, he should see that." He sighed and rubbed his eyes, exhausted from the pleasantries he'd had to endure all day. Talking to the parents of the one you were dating all day was tiring.
"Quidditch arguments aside, I think they like you very much. My mum especially. She said so, more or less." Scooting over until she was comfortably on his lap, she kissed him lightly. "Now, I think I still have one gift left to give. Who could that be for?" she teased.
"Oh? I've no idea," he said smiling. "Turns out I have one for someone as well. Who do you think should go first?" He ran his hands up and down her back.
A little nervous over the 'gift' she was giving Ron, Susan opted to receive her gift first. If it was something completely casual, she'd give him her reserve gift - a watch. She'd tried to rush earlier relationships and it hadn't worked out. She was hoping to be able to restrain herself this time around. "I think you should give me my gift first."
"Okay," Ron said, smiling. He was hoping what Ginny had suggested wasn't too much. He had gotten two different gifts, one for Christmas and one for her birthday on the 30th. He was more confident with her birthday gift, this one he wasn't so sure. Then again, he wasn't so good with gifts, so he figured he should just trust Ginny's judgment. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out an envelope.
"Here you go." Watching her open it, he said, "It's a gift certificate for a holiday at the destination of your choice. You just have to let the portkey office know where you wish to go."
Susan stared at the certificate for a moment before looking to Ron curiously. "A holiday for us? Together?" When he nodded, she threw her arms around him, her happy squeal filling the air. "Thank you so much, Ron. We're going to have a great time, wherever we go!" Various exotic destinations flew through her mind, but she'd wait and do a little research before deciding.
It was decided now, though. The watch would remain in its wrap and she'd give Ron what she'd originally planned. Hopefully he'd be pleased. Summoning his gift, a small package flew into her hand and she passed it to her boyfriend.
"The gift in the box is mainly symbolic," she said nervously as Ron opened it and looked curiously at the key inside. "Obviously we don't need a key to get in and out of our home."
A smile grew on Ron's lips as he picked up the key and looked at it. "This is... a really great Christmas gift, Suse." He gave her a kiss before explaining, "I don't know if I ever told you, but Robert is an awful roommate who has a slight problem putting on pants. I was always worried there would be a flashing problem. Not anymore though, solved." He grinned.
Giggling at his story, Susan feigned embarrassment. "Well, I suppose I should tell you that I have a problem keeping my pants on, too. Apparently you have that effect on people."
Ron's hands slid down her back to her skirt. "Hrm. It doesn't seem that I'm having that effect right now..."
Susan's grin turned impish. "Did I not mention I've been knickerless all day? Shame on me."
