Alicia stood in front of the stage, ready to cheer on her friend. She wasn't sure exactly when they'd gotten separated, but thought it might have been when a particularly handsome wizard started dancing with her. It had been a very enjoyable night thus far, and she was more than ready to dance to her friend's music as she sang in front of one of the biggest crowds yet. Smiling, she took a sip of her Firewhisky, and settled in.
Dean wandered through the crowd, sipping his Butterbeer. It had been a good day so far. After finishing up at Ginny's booth, he'd found a unoccupied nook and indulged himself in some quality people-watching. After he'd filled half of his sketchbook, Dean had wandered to the 'Sticks for some grub before making his way to the stage. He'd heard that Angelina was going to be singing, a treat he'd not indulged in since Hogwarts.
Alicia looked around to see if there was anyone she knew, and caught sight of a familiar face. "Oi! Dean! Over here!" She waved the tall man over to her, grinning. She hadn't seen him since they'd had supper, but if there was anyone with whom she'd enjoy cheering Angie on with, it'd be Dean. She was so proud of both of them, making names for themselves in the realms of Wizarding art forms.
Smiling as he saw Ali's wave, Dean made his way slowly through the press. "Ali! Damn, but it's good to see a familiar face in this mob," he said as he reached her side. "Alright, then?" At her smiling nod, Dean said, "Good!" Dean spread his arms wide. "Give us a squeeze then, love."
Alicia gave him a hug, careful not to squish her wings, and then, pulling back, spoke softly. "Not only is Angie singing tonight... Her music is on the wireless now too, eh?" She leaned her head on his shoulder as Angelina's entrance music started. "Ooh! It's starting! Be quiet." She jabbed Dean playfully in the ribs, knowing full well that she was the one making noise, and tried to bite back her laughter when he grabbed her by the waist, tickling her just a bit. "Quit that," she hissed, "I'm here to cheer her on, not distract her."
Angelina strutted onto the stage without a moment to spare. The band struck up her usual opening song and Angelina thanked her lucky stars that she'd made it on time. She felt a bit off kilter on the strange stage and having a Sonorus charm instead of a microphone, not to mention that her costume had definite flashing possibilities. Still, she was feeling pretty positive about her ability to perform. It helped that she'd had a shot or two of Firewhisky earlier.
Now, where's Ali?
Angelina searched the crowd for her friend, eventually finding Alicia right up front just as her cue came up, which she almost missed when she noticed the man beside her friend.
Dean!
She hadn't seen Dean Thomas in years. Back at Hogwarts, they'd both spent a lot of late nights in the Common Room with Angelina practicing her music and Dean working on some drawing or painting. They'd struck up a friendship, each trying to teach the other about their art with varying success: Angelina couldn't draw to save her life but Dean was a better-than-most tenor. They had even worked on a few duets. Angelina was particularly fond of their rendition of Unforgettable.
The thought sparked an idea that Angelina was sure Dean would kill her for later, but she just couldn't help herself; it was Halloween after all. Now, she just needed opportune moment.
It took two more songs for Angelina to finally put her plan into motion, "Happy Halloween, everyone! I'm Angelina Johnson and I'll be your entertainment for the next hour. I hope everyone's having a smashing time?" The crowd sounded their approval, "Brilliant! Now, I have a suggestion, and feel free to laugh me off the stage if you think it's bollocks, but let me get it out. I have have a friend in the audience that has a beautiful voice and we've been working on a song for awhile now. Would you like to hear it?" Hearing shouts of approval again, Angelina continued, this time grinning directly at her target, "Well, Dean Thomas, what do you say? A little ballad for old time's sake?"
Dean stood, slack-jawed, in utter shock. Oh. Shit. She's not actually serious, is she? Looking into her grinning eyes, he mouthed "Me?" At her amused nod, he froze. Oh my God - she is serious, Dean thought numbly. He stood there for a moment, frozen in shock, until Alicia gave him a none-too-gentle shove towards the stage. "Go on!" she said laughingly. "You know better than to keep a lady waiting!" Visibly shaking himself, Dean made his way hesitantly towards the stage. As he mounted the steps and made his way to Angelina, the crowd began cheering. Dean gave her a quick hug, leaned down and murmured, "I hope you know what you're doing, Angie."
Angelina winked at him then turned to the band to tell them what song they'd be playing. Once she was sure they were all on the same page, she turned back to Dean, removing the charm at her throat for a moment, "You'll be brilliant. Now, join me in really-loud-speaker-land so we can do this. I hope you're not too out of practice." Replacing her Sonorus charm, she grinned as the first bars began playing.
Casting his own Sonorus, Dean smiled. I remember this, he thought as he began to sing.
Alicia smiled as the familiar strains of music started playing. Angie and Dean had always had good chemistry while singing, and she knew that the crowd was in for a treat tonight.
Unforgettable, that's what you are... Unforgettable, though near or far... Like a song of love, that clings to me... How the thought of you does things to me, Never before, has someone been more...
Unforgettable, in every way... Unforgettable, that's how you'll stay... That's why, darling, it's incredible, that someone so unforgettable, thinks that I am, Unforgettable too...
Dean closed his eyes as Angelina's voice soared above his own. Oh, I've missed this, he thought with a blissful smile. I'd almost forgotten just how amazing she is.
Alicia could feel the women in the audience melting as Dean and Angelina's voices intermingled on the harmonies and played off of each other with ease. Even the men were enjoying it, a few couples had started dancing slowly, eyes only for each other. At the same time, it was as if she were back in the common room at Hogwarts listening to her friends, and Alicia was enjoying every moment of it. As the music lifted, Alicia found herself dancing along as Dean grabbed Angie and twirled her. Smiling at each other the way only two old friends can, they prepared for their final verse.
Unforgettable, in every way... And forevermore, that's how you'll stay, That's why darling, it's incredible, that someone, so unforgettable. Thinks that I am, unforgettable too....
The crowd went wild as the song ended, and Alicia found herself in near tears, feeling so incredibly proud of her two best friends. If there had been any doubt in her mind about using her methods of persuasion to get Angie's music on the Wireless, it was gone now, because the end more than justified the means. "Woo! Angie! Yay Dean!" She joined in the catcalling and grinned at both of her friends, hugging Dean impulsively as he returned to stand beside her. "That was so great," she whispered, still in his embrace. "Just like old times, yeah?"
Grinning at Alicia's antics, Angelina addressed the crowd once more, "Let's hear another round of applause for Dean Thomas, brilliant singer and all-round good bloke!"
Once again, the crowd went wild with applause as Angelina pointed in Dean's direction. She was happy to have reconnected with an old friend, even if it was one that was going to murder her later for her stunt. She couldn't explain why she had done it, she just felt like she could do anything on-stage. Angelina loved being out in front of an audience, their energy fed her own and lowered her inhibitions making anything seem possible. Performing, for Angelina, was like discovering she had magic all over again; it was exciting and new every time.
Moving with her crowd's enthusiasm, Angelina called the next song, this time for something a bit more upbeat. The notes began and Angelina threw herself into the song with reckless abandon. If she had to conjure dancing monkeys to make this her best performance ever, she would.
His cheeks still hot with embarrassment, Dean couldn't help but be struck by how glorious Angelina was as she began to perform in earnest. She seemed so vibrantly alive as she stalked seductively across the stage, drawing the crowd into the mood she was creating. Smiling, he leaned over to Alicia, who was watching her friend intently, proud tears in her eyes. "No, love. This is better," Dean murmured, before pulling her to him and beginning to dance.
